U14A Tornadoes Capture Bronze

Timmins Tornadoes U14A attended Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships this past weekend in Waterloo. These young athletes battled if out in a 5 game round robin series to see who would come out on top.

Game one Timmins was up against Ottawa Ice. They were able to keep the pressure on for the entire game scoring 3 goals in the first period, followed by a 4th goal in the second. Ottawa Ice was able to get one goal in late in the second ending in a final score of 4-1 Timmins.

Game two Timmins played Greater Sudbury. These evenly matched Northern teams fought it out to see who would come of top. Sudbury scored the first goal only 31 seconds into the game. Timmins answered back with 2 goals at 12:55 and 10:58 on the clock. Sudbury responded with another goal which was quickly answered by Timmins. In the second period Timmins kept the pressure but Sudbury was able to tie up the game scoring a goal with 3:10 on the clock. Timmins fought hard, answering their goal with one of their own with 2:03 on the clock gaining a one point advantage. Sudbury came back with a goal to tie up the game 4-4 in the last 1:41 minutes of the game.

Game three Timmins was up against West Ottawa. Timmins scored the first goal of the game at 10:10 in the first period on a power play. West Ottawa fought hard and was able to answer Timmins goal with 3 of their own with 7:15, 4:24, and 0:35 on the clock. In the final seconds of the first at 0:18 Timmins answered with a goal of their own, ending the first period in West Ottawa’s favor with a score of 2-3 for Ottawa. In the second period Timmins came out to play, they were able to score 3 goals and block all West Ottawa attempts with strong defensive and goalie work. Timmins secured another win 5-3.

In game four Timmins found themselves up against Chatham. Timmins was able to get off the first point in the first period at 8:23 on the clock. Chatham answered with their own goal at 5:30. Timmins was able gain the lead at the end of the first with another goal. In the second period Timmins increased their lead scoring two goals at 12:18 and 1:27 on the clock. Chatham was able to score one more goal with 1:19 on the clock, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to Timmins who came out with a 4-2 win.

The last game of the round robin, Timmins was up against Mitchell. This back an forth game was a tough one, with Mitchell scoring the only goal in the first period and keeping Timmins defense on their toes. In the second period Mitchell scored a second goal at 14:33. Timmins was able to answer Mitchell’s goals with 2 of their own tying up the game with 6:37 on the clock. Mitchell answered Timmins goals with a quick one of their own with 6:22 on the clock. Timmins was able to answer back tying up the game again at 4:55 in the second. Mitchell fought hard and was able to gain a one-point advantage at 3:32. Timmins didn’t give up, tying up the game yet again with only 0:54 seconds remaining. With a tie in game 5 Timmins came out of the round robin undefeated and headed into semi-finals in first place.

Semi-Finals saw Timmins face the Sunderland Stingers. Timmins played an amazing defensive game in the first period, but Sunderland was able to get in one goal in with 12:04 on the clock. In the second period, Timmins scored the first goal with 14:49 on the clock. Sunderland answered Timmins goal at 13:49. Timmins was able to tie up the game at 9:49. But Sunderland ultimately game out on top with a their winning goal at 5:51. This wasn’t the outcome Timmins had hoped for with a loss in the semi-finals, but the team kept their spirits high and headed in to the Bronze metal game against another northern team, Sault Ste. Marie.

Sault Ste. Marie didn’t hold anything back, as both teams played hard fighting for a provincial bronze metal. Timmins was able to get in the first goal at 14:32. Sualt Ste. Marie and Timmins played a back and fourth game throughout the first period, ending the first 3-2 Timmins. Timmins scored 2 more goals gaining a 3 point lead over Sault Ste. Marie with 8:48 on the clock. Sault Ste. Marie came back fighting and we able to get 2 goals in at 6:06 and 1:06 but it didn’t prove to be enough, and Timmins took home the Provincial Bronze Medal with a 5-4 win!
